Inner Voice

In Inner Voice, twenty-two symbolic figures emerge as life-size bronze sculptures.
Each work invites a dialogue with the inner world.

About the project

Inner Voice transforms the intimate scale of the tarot card into a physical and spatial experience. The series consists of twenty-two life-size figures, inspired by the imagery of the Major Arcana, the central sequence within tarot. Elongated in form and engraved with symbolic details, the figures draw on the visual language of the Rider-Waite deck, one of the world’s most widely known tarot traditions.

The Major Arcana reflects a universal series of human experiences, often described as a journey through life. In Inner Voice, Christine translates this journey into sculptural form, where each figure represents a different moment along that collective path.

Rather than offering fixed interpretations, the work invites a personal encounter, opening space for reflection and personal insight.

The Vision behind the Installation

Inner Voice is conceived not just as a collection of individual sculptures, but as a complete spatial experience. The twenty-two figures are designed to interact with one another and the space they inhabit, suggesting a sense of continuous movement, return, and transformation.

The installation invites visitors to move alongside the figures as if passing through a sequence of archetypal stages. By connecting the sculptures through numbers and symbolic markers, the project creates an open environment where viewers can find their own point of entry.

Each figure is accompanied by a reflection written in the first person. Speaking directly to you in its own ‘inner voice,’ the sculpture acts as a mirror, describing human experiences, lessons, and shadows that you may recognize within yourself. It is an invitation to look into the symbol and discover a piece of your own life journey reflected in the bronze.

Symbolic Language

Within the sculptures, a rich layer of symbols can be found. Symbols from different traditions come together to form a shared visual language that spans across cultures and time. These include references to numerology, astrology, Kabbalah, mythology, and other esoteric traditions. Each element holds multiple meanings, allowing the work to be read in layers and opening up various paths of interpretation.

On the Tarot Tradition

The imagery of Inner Voice is rooted in a long European tradition. Since the fifteenth century, tarot has evolved from a courtly card game into a profound symbolic language of archetypes, philosophy, and inner reflection.

Christine's Journey to Inner Voice

I am often asked how my interest in tarot began, and how these sculptures came into being. It is difficult to point to a single moment; there was no lightning strike, no sudden revelation. The process unfolded gradually, from within. From an early age, I was drawn to mystery. Over time, it became clear that these sculptures were simply asking to be brought into form.

Selected Figures

What follows is a selection of four works drawn from the larger series, each exploring deeper layers of symbolism. The works shown here offer only a glimpse. Each piece carries layers of meaning, where even the smallest detail — such as a number — can hold multiple interpretations. The insights offered here are partial and do not claim completeness. The deeper meaning is not meant to be explained, but to be felt.
