The Power of Seven
The Chariot is traditionally associated with the number seven, a number that carries layers of meaning across both the physical and spiritual world. It represents movement with purpose, not chaotic motion, but direction shaped by control, balance, and inner alignment.
Throughout human history, seven often appears as a recurring pattern, quietly structuring how we experience the world. There are seven days in a week, seven musical notes that form the basis of all melody, and seven colors in the rainbow that together create the full spectrum of light. These are not random occurrences, but structures that shape how we perceive time, sound, and reality.
This same pattern returns across spiritual and philosophical traditions. It can be found in the seven chakras of the body, the seven classical planets, and the seven ancient wonders of the world. Stories and belief systems continue to reflect it, from the seven years of abundance and scarcity to the seven deadly sins and their opposing virtues. Even the human body is said to renew itself in cycles of seven years, suggesting an ongoing process of transformation.
Seven, then, is not simply a number of repetition, but of progression. It marks a shift, a moment where experience turns into awareness and movement becomes intentional. It invites reflection, realignment, and conscious direction.
Within The Chariot, this becomes visible in the image of a figure carried forward in a vehicle, pulled by two opposing forces, often depicted as sphinxes at its front. These forces do not naturally move in harmony and can be understood as tension between past and future, instinct and intention. Direction is only possible through control, not force.
The Chariot ultimately speaks of a deeper form of victory, not over the external world, but over the self.
It is the moment where will, awareness, and movement align.
Where opposing forces no longer pull you apart,
but are guided forward with intention.
